With a vision for better health for South Carolinians, the South Carolina Clinical and Translational Research (SCTR) Institute is helping to ensure that everyone benefits from advances in biomedical research. A key strength of the SCTR Institute is its ability to connect with rural populations through close integration with the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) Regional Health Network.

In a largely rural state like South Carolina, access to medical expertise and clinical research opportunities is often limited to urban centers, creating barriers for rural residents. SCTR is actively working to overcome these challenges through our community outreach, workforce development, clinical and translational science research programs, and a robust suite of research resources, including decentralized trial capabilities and health informatics tools. By identifying and addressing these barriers, we aim to expand access and increase participation in clinical trials among rural populations in South Carolina.
